Chapter No: 1

Narrated from Abdullah bin Mawhab that Uthman (RA) said to Ibn Umar (RA): "Go and judge between the people." So, he said: "Don’t you excuse me from that O Commander of the Faithful!" He said: "Why do you abstain from that when your father judged?" He said: "I heard the Apostle of Allah ﷺ saying: 'Whoever was a judge and judged with justice, then it is hoped that he will only be able to get free with equal scale.’ What do I hope after that?'"


Narrated from Anas bin Malik (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: "Whoever sought for a position as a judge, then he is left on his own. And whoever is compelled onto it, Allah sends an angel towards him who guides him to the right path."


Narrated from Anas (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever craves for the office of the judge, and sought interceders for him for that purpose, then he will be left on his own. And whoever is forced into it, Allah sends an angel towards him who guides him."


Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: "Whoever takes hold of the office of a judge, or is appointed as judge between the people, then he has been slaughtered without a knife."

Chapter No: 2

Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: "When the ruler passes a judgement in which he tries very hard and reaches the correct (decision), then there are two rewards for him. And if he judges and is mistaken, then he will still take one reward."

Chapter No: 3

Some men who were companions of Mu'adh (RA) narrated from Mu'adh that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ sent Mu'adh to Yemen, so he ﷺ said: "How will you judge?" He said: "I will judge according to what is in Allah's Book." He said: "If it is not in Allah's Book?" He said: "Then with the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." He said: "If it is not in the Sunnah of Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" He said: "I will give in my view." He said: "All praise is due to Allah, the One Who guided the messenger of the Messenger of Allah to right thing."


(Another chain of narrators) Muhammad ibn Bashshar reported from Muhmmad ibn Ja’far and Abdur Rahman ibn Mahdi and both of them from Shu’bah who from Abu Awn who from Harith ibn Amir, nephew of Mughirab ibn Shu’bah, from Mu’adh who from the Prophet ﷺ a hadith like that in marfu’ form.

Chapter No: 4

Narrated from Abu Sa'eed (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: "Indeed, on the Day of Resurrection, the most beloved one before Allah among people, and the nearest to Him in the status will be a just Imam (ruler). And the most hated one before Allah among people, and the furthest from Him in status will be an oppressive Imam."


Narrated from Abdullah Ibn Abi Al-Awfa that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: "Indeed, Allah is with the judge as long as he is not unjust. So, when he is unjust, He leaves him, and Shaitan attaches with him."

Chapter No: 5

Ali (RA) said: " Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said to me: 'When two men approach you to sought judgement, then do not judge for the first until you have heard the statement of the other. Soon you will know how to judge.'" Ali (RA) said: "I continued to be a judge since then."

Chapter No: 6

Amr bin Murrah (RA) said to Mu'awiyah (RA): "I heard the Apostle of Allah ﷺ saying: 'No Imam closes his door for the needy, the helpless and the poor people, except that Allah closes the doors of the Heavens from his helplessness, his needs, and his poverty.' So Mu'awiyah appointed a man to look after the needs of the people."


(Another chain) A hadith of the same meaning is reported by All ibn Hujr from Yahya ibn Hamzah, from Yazid ibn Abu Maryam, from Qasim ibn Mughirah, who from Abu Maryam, a companion.

Chapter No: 7

Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Bakrah said: "My father wrote to 'Ubaidullah bin Abi Bakrah who was a judge: "Do not pass a judgement between two people while you are angry, for indeed I heard the Apostle of Allah ﷺ say: 'The judge should not judge between two people while he is angry.'"

Chapter No: 8

Mu'adh bin Jabal (RA) said: " Allah’s Apostle ﷺ appointed me towards Yemen. When I had left, he sent someone after me (to call me back), so I returned, and he said: 'Do you know why I sent for you? Do not take anything (from anyone) without my permission, for indeed that will be treachery, and whoever commits treachery, he will come with what he took on the Day of Resurrection. Therefore, I called you, so now you can go for your job.'"

Chapter No: 9

Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ cursed the giver and the receiver of a bribe in cases of judgement.


Narrated from Abdullah bin Amr (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ cursed the giver and the receiver of a bribe.

Chapter No: 10

Narrated from Anas bin Malik (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: "If a trotter (lacking meat) was gifted to me I would accept it, and if I was invited over (a meal of) it I would accept."
