Chapter No: 1

Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: "When it is the first night of the month of Ramadan, the devils and the insurgent jinns are fettered, the gates of the Hell are shut and not one of them is left opened. The gates of Paradise are opened such and not one of them is closed, and an announcer calls: 'O seeker of the good; come forward!' and 'O seeker of evil; desist! And Allah frees (His servants) from the Hell fire.' And that happens every night."


Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: "Whoever fasts Ramadan and stands (in the night prayer) for it out of faith and seeking a reward (from Allah), he will be forgiven his previous sins. Whoever stands (in the night prayer) on the Night of Al-Qadr out of faith and seeking a reward (from Allah), he will be forgiven his previous sins."

Chapter No: 2

Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Do not greet the month (of Ramadan) by fasting a day or two days before it, except that fast falls on a day which one of you use to fast (normally). Fast with its (moon) sighting and break it with its sighting, and if there are clouds over you, then count for thirty days, and then break (the fast)."


Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: "Do no greet the month of Ramadan by fasting a day or two before it, except that a man who normally fast (on that day), then he may fast it."

Chapter No: 3

Silah bin Zufar said: "We were with Ammar bin Yasir (RA) when a roasted sheep was brought, so he said: 'Eat.' Someone among the people moved aside and said: 'I am fasting.' So, Ammar said: 'Whoever fasts on a day about which the people are in doubt, then he has disobeyed Abul-Qasim ﷺ."

Chapter No: 4

Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: "Enumerate the moon of Sha'ban for Ramadan."

Chapter No: 5

Narrated from Ibn Abbas (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: "Do not fast before Ramadan. Fast with its (moon) sighting, and break the fast with its sighting, and if clouds cover it (moon), then complete thirty days."

Chapter No: 6

Ibn Mas`ud (RA) said: " I did not fast with the Prophet ﷺ for twenty-nine (days), more (times) than we fasted thirty days."(He said): There are narrations on this topic from `Umar, Abu Hurairah, `A'isha, Sa`d bin Abi Waqqas, Ibn `Abbas, Ibn `Umar, Anas, Jabir, Umm Salamah, Abu Bakrah, that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The month is twenty-nine (days)."


Narrated from Anas (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ vowed to stay away from his wives for a month, so he stayed in an upper room for twenty-nine days. They said: 'O Apostle of Allah ﷺ, you had vowed for a month,' so he said: 'The month is twenty-nine (days).'"

Chapter No: 7

Ibn Abbas (RA) said: "A Bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'I have seen the moon.' So, he said: 'Do you bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah? Do you bear witness that Muhammad ﷺ is the Apostle of Allah?' He said: 'Yes.' So, he said: 'O Bilal! Announce to the people that they should fast tomorrow.'"

Chapter No: 8

Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Bakrah narrated from his father that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: "The two months of Eid; Ramadan and Dhul-Hijjah will not be deficient together."

Chapter No: 9

Muhammad bin Abi Harmala said: "Kuraib informed me that Umm Al-Fadl bin Al-Harith sent him to Mu'awiyah in Ash-Sham. He said: 'So I arrived in Ash-Sham and finished her errand, and I saw the moon of Ramadan while I was in Ash-Sham. We saw the moon on the night of Friday. Then I arrived in Al-Madinah at the end of the month. Ibn Abbas was questioning me, then he mentioned the moon and he said: "When did you see the moon?" I said: "We saw it on the night of Friday." He said: "Did you see it on the night of Friday?" I said: "The people saw it, so they fasted, and Mu'awiyah fasted." He said: "But we saw it on the night of Saturday, so we will not stop fasting until we complete thirty days, or we see it." So, I said: "Is not the sighting and fasting of Mu'awiyah enough for you?" He said: "This is not how Allah’s Apostle ﷺ commanded us."

Chapter No: 10

Narrated from Anas bin Malik (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: "Whoever finds dates, then he should break the fast with that, and whoever does not, then he should break the fast with water, for indeed water is purifying."


Narrated from Salman bin Amir Ad-Dabbi (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ said: "When one of you breaks his fast, then he should do so with dates. And whoever does not find dates, then water, for indeed it is purifying."


Narrated from Anas bin Malik (RA) Allah’s Apostle ﷺ used to break the fast with fresh dates before offering Salah. If there were no fresh dates then with dried dates, and if there were no dried dates then he would take a few sips of water."
