Chapter No: 1

Kharijab bin Hudhafah (RA) said: “Once Allah's Apostle ﷺ came out to us and he said: “Indeed Allah has helped you with a Salah which is better for you than red camels: Al-Witr the Witr! Allah has placed it for you between the Salah of Isha and the rise of dawn.”

Chapter No: 2

Ali (RA) said: "Al-Witr is not as necessary as your obligatory prayers, but it is a Sunnah of Allah's Apostle ﷺ who said: "Indeed Allah is Witr (One), and He loves Al-Witr, so offer the Witr O people of the Qur'an."


Sufyan Thawri and others report from Abu Ishaq from Asim bin Damrah and he from Ali (RA) who said: "Al-Witr is not necessary as is the status of the obligatory prayers, but it is a Sunnah which was practiced by Allah's Apostle ﷺ."

Chapter No: 3

Abu Hurairah (RA) said: “Allah's Apostle ﷺ commanded me to offer Al-Witr before I sleep."

Chapter No: 4

Masruq asked Aishah (RA) about the Witr of the Prophet ﷺ. She replied: "He used to offer Witr during all parts of the night; the first of it, the middle of it and the last of it. Till his Witr ended, near to the approach of As-Sahar before his death."

Chapter No: 5

Narrated from Umm Salamah (RA) that he Prophet ﷺ used to offer thirteen [Rak'ah] Witr. When he got older and became weak he offered Witr with seven.

Chapter No: 6

Aishah (RA) narrated that the night prayer of Allah's Apostle ﷺ was thirteen Rak'ah, of which five were his Witr in which he would not sit except at the end of them. So he used to stand up when the Mu’addhin called the Adhan and offered two moderate Rak'ahs.

Chapter No: 7

Narrated from Ali (RA) that Allah's Apostle ﷺ used to offer Al-Witr with three (Rak’ah), reciting therein nine Surahs from Al- Mufassal (long Surahs of Qur’an), and in each Rak’ah he would recite three Surahs with last being (Ikhlas) Say: "Allah is One."


Muhammad bin Sirin said: "They (companions) used to offer Al-Witr with five, three, and one Rak'ah, and they regarded all of that to be good."

Chapter No: 8

Anas bin Sirin said that he asked Ibn Umar (RA): “Shall I elongate the two Rak'ah (before) Al-Fajr? He said: " During the night the Prophet ﷺ used to offer (Salah) in twos, and he would offer Al-Witr with one Rak'ah. And he offered two Rak'ah (of Fajr) with the Adhan in his ears, meaning by he would make them lighter.”

Chapter No: 9

Narrated from Ibn Abbas (RA) that during Al-Witr Allah's Apostle ﷺ used to recite: "Glorify the Name of your Lord the Most High' (surah al‐Ala) and, 'Say: O you disbelievers!' (al‐Kafiroon) and, 'Say: Allah is One,' (al‐Ikhlas) in respective Rak'ahs.


Abdul-Aziz bin Juraij narrated: "I asked Aishah (RA); ‘what did Allah's Apostle recite in Al-Witr.’ She said: 'he used to recite: Glorify the Name of your Lord the Most High (surah al‐Ala) in first Rak’ah, and Say: O you disbelievers! ' (al‐Kafiroon) in the second and Say: Allah is One (al‐Ikhlas) in the third, and, Al-Mu'awwidhatain.'"

Chapter No: 10

Al-Hasan bin Ali (RA) said: “Allah's Apostle ﷺ taught me some sentences to recite in the Witr: 'O Allah guide me among those whom You have guided, forgive me among those You have forgiven, befriend me among those You have befriended, bless me in what You have bestowed (upon me), and protect me from the evil that You ordained. Indeed You are the one who ordains, and no one else can ordain against You, indeed he is never disgraced whom You have befriended, blessed are You our Lord and Exalted you are.'"
