Chapter No: 1

Abu Tha'labah Al-Khushani (RA) said: "I said: 'O Apostle of Allah! ﷺ We are those people who hunt.' He said: 'If you send your dog and you recite the Name of Allah upon it, then whatever it keeps on hold for you, eat it.' I asked: 'Even if it kills it?' He said: 'Even if it kills it.' I said: 'We are those people who shoot (at hunt).' He said: 'Whatever your arrow catches for you, eat it.'" He said: "Then I said: 'Indeed we are a people who travel. We come across Jews, Christians, and Zoroastrians, and we do not find utensils other than theirs.' He said: 'If you do not find other than them, then wash them with water, then eat and drink from it.'"


Adi bin Hatim (RA) said: "I said: 'O Apostle of Allah! ﷺ We send our trained dogs to catch hunt for us.' He said: 'Eat what it catches for you.' I asked: 'O Apostle of Allah ﷺ, what if they kill it?' He said: 'Even if they kill it, as long as they are not accompanied by some other dogs besides them.'" He (narrator) said: "I said: 'O Apostle of Allah! We hunt by throwing the Mir'ad (weapons).' He said: 'Eat! what the (sharper side of) Mir'ad pierces, but if it is struck by its broad side, then do not eat it.'" (Another Chain) except that he said: "And he was asked about the Mir'ad."

Chapter No: 2

Jabir bin Abdullah (RA) said: "We have been forbidden from hunting with Zoroastrian's dog."

Chapter No: 3

Adi bin Hatim (RA) said: "I asked the Apostle of Allah ﷺ concerning the game caught by a falcon. So, he replied: 'Whatever it catches for you, eat it.'"

Chapter No: 4

Adi bin Hatim (RA) said: "I said: 'O Apostle of Allah! ﷺ I shoot at some game and then find my arrow in it the next day.' He said: 'If you know that your arrow killed it, and you don’t see any marks of predators, then eat it.'"

Chapter No: 5

Adi bin Hatim (RA) said: "I asked the Apostle of Allah ﷺ about hunting, so he said: 'Recite Allah's Name when you shoot your arrow. Then, if you find it dead, eat from it, unless you found that it fallen dead in water. Then do not eat it, for indeed you do not know whether the water killed it, or your arrow.'"

Chapter No: 6

Adi bin Hatim (RA) said: "I asked the Apostle of Allah ﷺ concerning the hunt of a trained dog. He replied: 'If you send your trained dog and you recite the Name of Allah upon it, then eat from what it catches for you. But if it eats from it, then do not eat it, indeed he has only caught it for himself.' I asked: 'O Apostle of Allah! ﷺ What do you say if our dogs get mixed with other dogs.' He said: 'You only recited the Name of Allah upon your dog, you did not recite it over the others.'" Sufyan said: "He disliked for him to eat it."

Chapter No: 7

Adi bin Hatim (RA) said: “I asked the Prophet ﷺ about the game killed by Mir'ad (throwing weapons). So, he said: 'Eat from what you kill by its sharp edge, and what you kill by its broad side, it is Waqeez (a hunt killed by unsharpened object, e.g. stone, stick etc.).'"

Chapter No: 8

Narrated from Jabir bin Abdullah (RA) that a man from his tribe’s people hunted a rabbit or two and slaughtered them with a stone. Then he hung them up until he met the Apostle of Allah ﷺ, so he asked him about that, and he ﷺ told him to eat them.

Chapter No: 9

Narrated from Abu Ad-Darda (RA) that the Apostle of Allah ﷺ disallowed eating the Mujath-thamah, and it is an animal which is tied to a rope and targeted by arrows.


Umm Habibah bint Al-'Irbad Narrated from her father that on the day of Khaibar, Allah’s Apostle ﷺ disallowed eating the meat of every predator having the canine teeth, the meat of every bird having claws, the meat of the domestic donkey, the Mujath-thamah, the Khalisah, and from having sexual intercourse with a pregnant slave woman until she gives birth to what is in her womb." Muhammad bin Yahya said: "Abu 'Asim was asked about Mujath-thamah and he said: "To ensnare a bird or something and then shoot it." He was asked about Khalisah, so he said: "(Prey) that a man finds with a wolf or a predator, then he takes it from him but it dies in his hand before it can be slaughtered."


Narrated from Ibn Abbas (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ disallowed from making a living thing as a shooting target.

Chapter No: 10

Narrated from Abu Saeed (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Slaughtering of the fetus is (included in) the slaughtering of its mother."
