Sayings of the Messenger احادیثِ رسول اللہ ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَمَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنِ الأَوْزَاعِيِّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي الوَلِيدُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ الْمُعَيْطِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مَعْدَانُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ اليَعْمَرِيُّ، قَالَ: لَقِيتُ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: دُلَّنِي عَلَى عَمَلٍ يَنْفَعُنِي اللَّهُ بِهِ وَيُدْخِلُنِي اللَّهُ الجَنَّةَ؟ فَسَكَتَ عَنِّي مَلِيًّا، ثُمَّ التَفَتَ إِلَيَّ فَقَالَ: عَلَيْكَ بِالسُّجُودِ، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَسْجُدُ لِلَّهِ سَجْدَةً إِلاَّ رَفَعَهُ اللَّهُ بِهَا دَرَجَةً وَحَطَّ عَنْهُ بِهَا خَطِيئَةً.

Ma'daan bin Talhah Al Ya’mari said: "I met Thawban (RA) the freed slave of Allah's Apostle ﷺ and said to him, 'Guide me to a deed with which Allah will benefit me, and with which Allah will enter me into the Paradise.' He remained silent for quite a while, then he turned to me and said: ‘Make a lot of prostrations, as I heard Allah's Apostle ﷺ saying: 'No worshipper make a prostration to Allah except that by it, Allah will raise him a level, and erase a sin from him for it.'"

قَالَ مَعْدَانُ: فَلَقِيتُ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَمَّا سَأَلْتُ عَنْهُ ثَوْبَانَ؟ فَقَالَ: عَلَيْكَ بِالسُّجُودِ، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَسْجُدُ لِلَّهِ سَجْدَةً إِلاَّ رَفَعَهُ اللَّهُ بِهَا دَرَجَةً وَحَطَّ عَنْهُ بِهَا خَطِيئَةً.

Madan bin Talhah said: "I met Abu Ad-Darda (RA), and I asked him what I had asked Thawban, so he replied: ‘Make a lot of prostrations, as I heard Allah's Apostle ﷺ saying: 'No worshipper make a prostration to Allah except that by it, Allah will raise him a level, and erase a sin from him for it.'"

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ ضَمْضَمِ بْنِ جَوْسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِقَتْلِ الأَسْوَدَيْنِ فِي الصَّلاَةِ الحَيَّةُ وَالعَقْرَبُ.

Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that Allah's Apostle ﷺ commanded to kill two black species in Salah; the snake and the scorpion

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ ابْنِ بُحَيْنَةَ الأَسَدِيِّ حَلِيفِ بَنِي عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَامَ فِي صَلاَةِ الظُّهْرِ وَعَلَيْهِ جُلُوسٌ، فَلَمَّا أَتَمَّ صَلاَتَهُ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ، يُكَبِّرُ فِي كُلِّ سَجْدَةٍ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ، قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسَلِّمَ، وَسَجَدَهُمَا النَّاسُ مَعَهُ، مَكَانَ مَا نَسِيَ مِنَ الجُلُوسِ.

Abdullah bin Buhainah Al-Asadi the ally of Banu Abdul-Muttalib (RA) narrated that during a Zuhr prayer the Prophet ﷺ stood up when he had a sitting to perform, so when he completed his Salah, he made two prostrations, saying the Takbeer for each prostration. So he was sitting before saying the Salam, and the people prostrated with him in place of the sitting he forgot." There is a narration with another chain that Abu Hurairah (RA) and ['Abdullah bin] As-Sa'ib Al-Qari (RA) would perform the prostrations of As-Sahw before the Taslim.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ الحَكَمِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ خَمْسًا، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: أَزِيدَ فِي الصَّلاَةِ أَمْ نَسِيتَ؟ فَسَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ بَعْدَمَا سَلَّمَ.

Narrated from Abdullah bin Mas’ud (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ offered five (Rak’ah) for Zuhr, so he was told: “Has the Salah been increased, or have you merely forgotten?” So he ﷺ made two prostrations after he had said the Salam.

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، وَمَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ، قَالاَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيِ السَّهْوِ بَعْدَ الكَلاَمِ.

Narrated from Abdullah (bin Mas’ud) (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ offered two prostrations for As-Sahw after talking.

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَجَدَهُمَا بَعْدَ السَّلاَمِ.

Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ offered two prostrations (of Sahw) after the Salam.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الأَنْصَارِيُّ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَشْعَثُ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلاَبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمُهَلَّبِ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى بِهِمْ فَسَهَا، فَسَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ تَشَهَّدَ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ.

Narrated from Imran bin Husain (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ led them in Salah then he forgot (something) so he made two prostrations, then the Tashahhud, and then he called Salam.

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ عِيَاضِ بْنِ هِلاَلٍ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لأَبِي سَعِيدٍ: أَحَدُنَا يُصَلِّي فَلاَ يَدْرِي كَيْفَ صَلَّى؟ فَقَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فَلَمْ يَدْرِ كَيْفَ صَلَّى فَلْيَسْجُدْ سَجْدَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ.

Iyadh bin Hilal said: "I asked Abu Sa'eed (RA): 'One of us offers Salah and he does not know how (much Rak’ah) he prayed.' So he replied: 'Allah's Apostle ﷺ said: "When one of you offers Salah and he does now know how (much) he prayed then he should offer two prostrations while he is sitting."

Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that Allah's Apostle ﷺ said: "Indeed the Shaitan comes to one of you in his Salah and makes it obscure for him until he does now know how much (Rak’ah) he has prayed. When anyone of you finds such thing the he should make two prostrations while sitting."

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدِ ابْنُ عَثْمَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: إِذَا سَهَا أَحَدُكُمْ فِي صَلاَتِهِ فَلَمْ يَدْرِ وَاحِدَةً صَلَّى أَوْ ثِنْتَيْنِ فَلْيَبْنِ عَلَى وَاحِدَةٍ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَدْرِ ثِنْتَيْنِ صَلَّى أَوْ ثَلاَثًا فَلْيَبْنِ عَلَى ثِنْتَيْنِ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَدْرِ ثَلاَثًا صَلَّى أَوْ أَرْبَعًا فَلْيَبْنِ عَلَى ثَلاَثٍ، وَلْيَسْجُدْ سَجْدَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسَلِّمَ.

Abdur-Rahman bi Awf (RA) narrated that he heard the Prophet ﷺ saying: "When one of you forgets in his Salah and he does not know whether he has prayed one or two, then he should count it one. And when he does not know whether he has prayed three or four, then he should count it three, and he should make two prostrations before he says the Tasleem."

حَدَّثَنَا الأَنْصَارِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَعْنٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ وَهُوَ السَّخْتِيَانِيُّ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ انْصَرَفَ مِنْ اثْنَتَيْنِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ ذُو اليَدَيْنِ: أَقُصِرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: أَصَدَقَ ذُو اليَدَيْنِ؟ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ: نَعَمْ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَصَلَّى اثْنَتَيْنِ أُخْرَيَيْنِ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ، فَسَجَدَ مِثْلَ سُجُودِهِ أَوْ أَطْوَلَ، ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ، فَرَفَعَ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ مِثْلَ سُجُودِهِ أَوْ أَطْوَلَ.

Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ turned (finishing the prayer) after two (Rak'ah), so Dhul-Yadain asked him: “O Messenger of Allah ﷺ has the prayer been curtailed or you have forgotten?" The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Did Dhul-Yadain spoke the truth?' The people said yes, so Allah's Messenger ﷺ stood to offer the last two (Rak’ah) of Salah, then he said the Salam. Then he said the Takbeer and prostrated as he used to do or longer than his (normal) prostrations."

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ أَبِي مَسْلَمَةَ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ: أَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي فِي نَعْلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ.

Sa'eed bin Yazid Abu Maslamah said: "I asked Anas bin Malik (RA): ‘Did Allah's Apostle ﷺ offer Salah in his sandals?' He replied: 'Yes.'"

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنِ البَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقْنُتُ فِي صَلاَةِ الصُّبْحِ وَالمَغْرِبِ.

Narrated from Al-Bara bin Azib (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ used to recite the Qunut in the Fajr (morning) and Maghrib prayers.

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الأَشْجَعِيِّ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لأَبِي: يَا أَبَةِ، إِنَّكَ قَدْ صَلَّيْتَ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ، وَعُمَرَ، وَعُثْمَانَ، وَعَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، هَاهُنَا بِالكُوفَةِ نَحْوًا مِنْ خَمْسِ سِنِينَ، أَكَانُوا يَقْنُتُونَ؟، قَالَ: أَيْ بُنَيَّ مُحْدَثٌ.

Abu Malik Al-Ashjai narrated: "I asked my father: 'O my father! You did offer Salah behind Allah's Apostle ﷺ, Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali bin Abi Talib (May Allah be pleasedwith all of them) here in Al-Kufah (behind Ali) for about five years. Did they recite the Qunut?' He replied: 'It is an innovation my son.'"

حَدَّثَنَا صَالِحُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الأَشْجَعِيِّ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ نَحْوَهُ بِمَعْنَاهُ.

Salih bin Abdullah reported from Abu Awanah who from Abu Malik Ashjai a Hadith of the same meaning, from this line of transmission.
