Sayings of the Messenger احادیثِ رسول اللہ ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ حُبَابٍ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بُسْرٍ، أَنَّ أَعْرَابِيًّا قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَنْ خَيْرُ النَّاسِ؟ قَالَ: مَنْ طَالَ عُمُرُهُ، وَحَسُنَ عَمَلُهُ.

Narrated from Abdullah bin Busr (RA) that a Bedouin asked:"O Apostle of Allah! ﷺWho is the best among the people?" He replied: "The one who gets a long life while his deeds are good." There are narrations on this topic from Abu Hurairah (RA) and Jabir (RA).

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَفْصٍ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الحَارِثِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ رَجُلاً قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَيُّ النَّاسِ خَيْرٌ، قَالَ: مَنْ طَالَ عُمُرُهُ، وَحَسُنَ عَمَلُهُ، قَالَ: فَأَيُّ النَّاسِ شَرٌّ؟ قَالَ: مَنْ طَالَ عُمُرُهُ وَسَاءَ عَمَلُهُ.

Abdur-Rahman bin Abi-Bakrah narrated from his father that a man asked:"O Apostle of Allah! ﷺ Who is the best among the people?" He replied: "The one who gets a long life while his deeds are good." He said: "Then who is the worst among the people?" He said: "The one who gets a long life while his deeds are bad."

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الجَوْهَرِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ، عَنْ كَامِلٍ أَبِي العَلاَءِ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: عُمْرُ أُمَّتِي مِنْ سِتِّينَ سَنَةً إِلَى سَبْعِينَ سَنَةً.

Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: “The lifespan for my Ummah is between sixty years to seventy years.”

حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الدُّورِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْعُمَرِيُّ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: لاَ تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ حَتَّى يَتَقَارَبَ الزَّمَانُ، فَتَكُونُ السَّنَةُ كَالشَّهْرِ، وَالشَّهْرُ كَالْجُمُعَةِ، وَتَكُونُ الْجُمُعَةُ كَالْيَوْمِ، وَيَكُونُ الْيَوْمُ كَالسَّاعَةِ، وَتَكُونُ السَّاعَةُ كَالضَّرَمَةِ بِالنَّارِ.

Narrated from Anas bin Malik (RA) that the Allah's Apostle ﷺ said:"The hour shall not approach until time draws near, such that a year is like a month, a month is like a week, and a week is like a day, and a day is like an hour, and an hour is like the flare of the fire."

حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: أَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِبَعْضِ جَسَدِي فَقَالَ: كُنْ فِي الدُّنْيَا كَأَنَّكَ غَرِيبٌ أَوْ عَابِرُ سَبِيلٍ وَعُدَّ نَفْسَكَ فِي أَهْلِ القُبُورِ فَقَالَ لِي ابْنُ عُمَرَ: إِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ فَلاَ تُحَدِّثْ نَفْسَكَ بِالمَسَاءِ، وَإِذَا أَمْسَيْتَ فَلاَ تُحَدِّثْ نَفْسَكَ بِالصَّبَاحِ، وَخُذْ مِنْ صِحَّتِكَ قَبْلَ سَقَمِكَ وَمِنْ حَيَاتِكَ قَبْلَ مَوْتِكَ فَإِنَّكَ لاَ تَدْرِي يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ مَا اسْمُكَ غَدًا.

Narrated from Mujahid that Ibn Umar (RA) said:"Allah’s Apostle ﷺ held me from a part of my body and said: 'Be in this world as though you are a stranger or a passerby, and enumerate yourself among the people of the grave.'" Ibn Umar (RA) said to me: "When you wake up in the morning, then do not talk to yourself about the evening. And when you reach the evening, then do not talk to yourself about the morning. Take from your health before your illness, and from your life before your death, for indeed O slave of Allah! You do not know what your description shall be tomorrow."

حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: هَذَا ابْنُ آدَمَ وَهَذَا أَجَلُهُ وَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ عِنْدَ قَفَاهُ، ثُمَّ بَسَطَهَا فَقَالَ: وَثَمَّ أَمَلُهُ وَثَمَّ أَمَلُهُ.

Narrated from Anas bin Malik (RA) that that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said:"This is the son of Adam, and this is his life-span." And he placed his hand at the (height of the) nape of his neck, then he extended it (higher) and said:" From there is what is hoped for, from there is what is hoped for."

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي السَّفَرِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، قَالَ: مَرَّ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ نُعَالِجُ خُصًّا لَنَا، فَقَالَ: مَا هَذَا؟ فَقُلْنَا قَدْ وَهَى فَنَحْنُ نُصْلِحُهُ، فَقَالَ: مَا أَرَى الأَمْرَ إِلاَّ أَعْجَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ.

Narrated from Safr that Abdullah bin Amr (RA) said:"Allah’s Apostle ﷺpassed by us while we were repairing a hut of ours, so he said: 'What is this?' We said: "It has weakened, so we are repairing it.' He said: 'I do not see but that the command (of death) is quicker than that."

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الحَسَنُ بْنُ سَوَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عِيَاضٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: إِنَّ لِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ فِتْنَةً وَفِتْنَةُ أُمَّتِي الْمَالُ

Narrated from Ka'b bin 'Iyad (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ said:"Indeed there is a fitnah for every Ummah, and the Fitnah for my Ummah is wealth."

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: لَوْ كَانَ لاِبْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَانِ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ لأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ ثَالِثٌ، وَلاَ يَمْلَأُ فَاهُ إِلاَّ التُّرَابُ، وَيَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ.

Narrated from Anas bin Malik (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said:"If the Son of Adam had a valley of gold, then he would still carve to have a second. And nothing fills his mouth but dust, Allah turns to whoever repents."

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلاَنَ، عَنِ القَعْقَاعِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: قَلْبُ الشَّيْخِ شَابٌّ عَلَى حُبِّ اثْنَتَيْنِ: طُولِ الحَيَاةِ وَكَثْرَةِ الْمَالِ.

Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ said: "The heart of an old man remains young because of love for two things: Long life, and abundance of wealth."

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: يَهْرَمُ ابْنُ آدَمَ وَيَشُبُّ مِنْهُ اثْنَتَانِ: الحِرْصُ عَلَى العُمُرِ وَالحِرْصُ عَلَى الْمَالِ.

Narrated from Anas bin Malik (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ said:"The Son of Adam grows old, but two things grow young in him greed for long life and greed for wealth."

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ وَاقِدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَلْبَسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِدْرِيسَ الخَوْلاَنِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: الزَّهَادَةُ فِي الدُّنْيَا لَيْسَتْ بِتَحْرِيمِ الحَلاَلِ وَلاَ إِضَاعَةِ الْمَالِ وَلَكِنَّ الزَّهَادَةَ فِي الدُّنْيَا أَنْ لاَ تَكُونَ بِمَا فِي يَدَيْكَ أَوْثَقَ مِمَّا فِي يَدِ اللهِ وَأَنْ تَكُونَ فِي ثَوَابِ الْمُصِيبَةِ إِذَا أَنْتَ أُصِبْتَ بِهَا أَرْغَبَ فِيهَا لَوْ أَنَّهَا أُبْقِيَتْ لَكَ.

Narrated from Abu Dhār (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ said:"Abstinence in the world is not by prohibiting (oneself) the lawful nor by neglecting wealth, but abstinence in the world is that you not hold more firmly to what is in your hand than to what is in the hand of Allah, and that you be more hopeful of the rewards that come with an affliction that you may suffer if it remain with you."

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الوَارِثِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حُرَيْثُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الحَسَنَ، يَقُولُ: حَدَّثَنِي حُمْرَانُ بْنُ أَبَانَ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: لَيْسَ لاِبْنِ آدَمَ حَقٌّ فِي سِوَى هَذِهِ الخِصَالِ، بَيْتٌ يَسْكُنُهُ وَثَوْبٌ يُوَارِي عَوْرَتَهُ وَجِلْفُ الخُبْزِ وَالمَاءِ.

Narrated from'Uthman bin Affan (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ said:"There is no right for the son of Adam in other than these things: A house which he lives in, a garment which covers his private parts, and vessels to hold bread and water."
