Sayings of the Messenger احادیثِ رسول اللہ ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لاَ تَدْخُلُوا الجَنَّةَ حَتَّى تُؤْمِنُوا، وَلاَ تُؤْمِنُوا حَتَّى تَحَابُّوا، أَلاَ أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَى أَمْرٍ إِذَا أَنْتُمْ فَعَلْتُمُوهُ تَحَابَبْتُمْ؟ أَفْشُوا السَّلاَمَ بَيْنَكُمْ.

Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺsaid: "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! You will not enter Paradise till you believe, and you will not believe till you love each other. Shall I not guide you about a matter which if you do it, you will love each other? Spread the Salam among each other."

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، وَالحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْجَرِيرِيُّ الْبَلْخِيُّ، قَالاَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ الضُّبَعِيِّ، عَنْ عَوْفٍ، عَنْ أَبِي رَجَاءٍ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ، أَنَّ رَجُلاً جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ، قَالَ: قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: عَشْرٌ ثُمَّ جَاءَ آخَرُ فَقَالَ: السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: عِشْرُونَ. ثُمَّ جَاءَ آخَرُ فَقَالَ: السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ثَلاَثُونَ.

Narrated from Imran bin Husain (RA) that a man came to the Prophetﷺand said: 'As-Salamu 'Alaykum (Peace be upon you).'" [He said:] "So the Prophetﷺsaid: 'Ten'(good deeds) Then another came and he said: 'As-Salamu 'AlaykumWaRahmatullah (Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah).' So the Prophetﷺsaid: 'Twenty.' Then another came and said: 'As-Salamu 'AlaykumWaRahmatullahiWaBarakatuh (Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah, and His Blessings).' So the Prophetﷺsaid: 'Thirty.'"

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ وَكِيعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى، عَنِ الجُرَيْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: اسْتَأْذَنَ أَبُو مُوسَى عَلَى عُمَرَ فَقَالَ: السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَأَدْخُلُ؟ قَالَ عُمَرُ: وَاحِدَةٌ، ثُمَّ سَكَتَ سَاعَةً، ثُمَّ قَالَ: السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَأَدْخُلُ؟ قَالَ عُمَرُ: ثِنْتَانِ، ثُمَّ سَكَتَ سَاعَةً فَقَالَ: السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَأَدْخُلُ؟ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: ثَلاَثٌ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ لِلْبَوَّابِ: مَا صَنَعَ؟ قَالَ: رَجَعَ، قَالَ: عَلَيَّ بِهِ، فَلَمَّا جَاءَهُ، قَالَ: مَا هَذَا الَّذِي صَنَعْتَ؟ قَالَ: السُّنَّةُ، قَالَ: آلسُّنَّةُ؟ وَاللَّهِ لَتَأْتِيَنِّي عَلَى هَذَا بِبُرْهَانٍ أَوْ بِبَيِّنَةٍ أَوْ لأَفْعَلَنَّ بِكَ، قَالَ: فَأَتَانَا وَنَحْنُ رُفْقَةٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ: يَا مَعْشَرَ الأَنْصَارِ أَلَسْتُمْ أَعْلَمَ النَّاسِ بِحَدِيثِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ أَلَمْ يَقُلْ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: الاِسْتِئْذَانُ ثَلاَثٌ، فَإِنْ أُذِنَ لَكَ، وَإِلاَّ فَارْجِعْ فَجَعَلَ القَوْمُ يُمَازِحُونَهُ، قَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ: ثُمَّ رَفَعْتُ رَأْسِي إِلَيْهِ فَقُلْتُ: فَمَا أَصَابَكَ فِي هَذَا مِنَ العُقُوبَةِ فَأَنَا شَرِيكُكَ. قَالَ: فَأَتَى عُمَرَ فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: مَا كُنْتُ عَلِمْتُ بِهَذَا.

Abu Saeed (RA) said:"Abu Musa (RA) sought permission to enter upon Umar (RA). He said: 'As-Salamu 'Alaykum (Peace be upon you). May I enter?' 'Umar (RA) said: 'Once.' Then he kept silent for some time. Then he said: 'As-Salamu 'Alaykum (Peace be upon you). May I enter?' 'Umar (RA) said: Twice.' Then he kept silent for some time. Then he said: 'As-salamu 'Alaykum (Peace be upon you). May I enter?' 'Umar (RA) said: 'Thrice.' Then he (Abu Musa) left. 'Umar (RA) asked the gate-keeper: 'What did he do?' He replied: 'He went away." He said: 'Bring him to me.' So, when he came, 'Umar (RA) asked him: 'What did you do this?' He said: 'The Sunnah.' He said: 'The Sunnah? By Allah! Bring me an evidence and witness to clarify this, or I will do this or that to you (punish you).'" He said "So he came to us while we were a group of Ansar. He said: 'O People of the Ansar! Are you not the most knowledgeable people about the Ahadith of the Apostle of Allahﷺ? Did Allah’s Apostle ﷺ not say: "Permission is to be sought three times. If you are permitted then enter, or otherwise leave?" The people started joking. Abu Saeed said: "Then I raised my head toward him and said: "I am your partner in whatever punishment you will receive because of this matter." So, he came to Umar (RA) and told him about it, and 'Umar said: "I did not know about this."

حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو زُمَيْلٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ الخَطَّابِ، قَالَ: اسْتَأْذَنْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثَلاَثًا فَأَذِنَ لِي.

Narrated from Ibn Abbas (RA) that Umar bin Al-Khattab (RA) said: "I sought permission (to enter) from Allah’s Apostle ﷺthrice, then he gave me permission."

2692 - حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: دَخَلَ رَجُلٌ الْمَسْجِدَ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَالِسٌ فِي نَاحِيَةِ الْمَسْجِدِ فَصَلَّى ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: وَعَلَيْكَ، ارْجِعْ فَصَلِّ فَذَكَرَ الحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ.

Abu Hurairah (RA) said:"A man entered the Masjid while Allah’s Apostle ﷺwas sitting at the rear of the Masjid. So, he offered Salah then came to him and offered Salam, so the Prophetﷺ responded: "WaAlaik (and upon you); go back and pray for indeed you have not prayed.'" And then he reported the complete Hadith.

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ الكُوفِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ، حَدَّثَتْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهَا: إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ يُقْرِئُكِ السَّلاَمَ، قَالَتْ: وَعَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ.

Narrated from Abu Salamah (RA) that Aishah (RA) narrated to him that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said to her: "Indeed Jibril (AS) is offering Salam to you." She said: "And upon him be peace and the mercy of Allah and His Blessings."

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا قُرَّانُ بْنُ تَمَّامٍ الأَسَدِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي فَرْوَةَ يَزِيدَ بْنِ سِنَانٍ، عَنْ سُلَيْمِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ، قَالَ: قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ الرَّجُلاَنِ يَلْتَقِيَانِ أَيُّهُمَا يَبْدَأُ بِالسَّلاَمِ؟ فَقَالَ: أَوْلاَهُمَا بِاللَّهِ.

Abu Umamah (RA) said: “It was asked: 'O Apostle of Allah ﷺ! when two men meet, which of them should initiate the Salam?' He said: 'The nearest of them to Allah

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِغَيْرِنَا، لاَ تَشَبَّهُوا بِاليَهُودِ وَلاَ بِالنَّصَارَى، فَإِنَّ تَسْلِيمَ اليَهُودِ الإِشَارَةُ بِالأَصَابِعِ، وَتَسْلِيمَ النَّصَارَى الإِشَارَةُ بِالأَكُفِّ.

Amr bin Shu'aib narrated from his father, from his grandfather, that Allah’s Apostle ﷺsaid: "He is not one of us who resembles other than us. Do not resemble the Jews or the Christians. For indeed greeting of the Jews is gesturing the finger, and the greeting of the Christians is gesture with the hand."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الخَطَّابِ زِيَادُ بْنُ يَحْيَى البَصْرِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَتَّابٍ سَهْلُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سَيَّارٍ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ أَمْشِي مَعَ ثَابِتٍ البُنَانِيِّ، فَمَرَّ عَلَى صِبْيَانٍ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ ثَابِتٌ: كُنْتُ مَعَ أَنَسٍ، فَمَرَّ عَلَى صِبْيَانٍ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ، وَقَالَ أَنَسٌ: كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَمَرَّ عَلَى صِبْيَانٍ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ.

Sayyar said:"I was walking with Thabit Al-Bunani. He passed by some boys, so he said Salam to them. Then Thabit said: 'I was with Anas (RA) when he passed by some boys and gave the Salam to them, and Anas said: I was with the Prophetﷺwhen he passed by some boys and he gave the Salam to them.'"

حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدٌ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الحَمِيدِ بْنُ بَهْرَامَ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ شَهْرَ بْنَ حَوْشَبٍ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتَ يَزِيدَ، تُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ يَوْمًا وَعُصْبَةٌ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ قُعُودٌ، فَأَلْوَى بِيَدِهِ بِالتَّسْلِيمِ وَأَشَارَ عَبْدُ الحَمِيدِ بِيَدِهِ.

Narrated from Asma bint Yazid (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺpassed through the Masjid one day, and a group of women were sitting, so he gestured Salam with his hand - 'Abdul-Hamid (one of the narrators) gestured with his hand.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَاتِمٍ البَصْرِيُّ الأَنْصَارِيُّ مُسْلِمُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الأَنْصَارِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: يَا بُنَيَّ إِذَا دَخَلْتَ عَلَى أَهْلِكَ فَسَلِّمْ يَكُونُ بَرَكَةً عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِكَ.

Anas (RA) said:"Allah’s Apostle ﷺsaid to me: 'O my little son! When you enter upon your family then give the Salam, it will be a blessing for you and upon the people of your house."
