Sayings of the Messenger احادیثِ رسول اللہ ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: لاَ يُصِيبُ الْمُؤْمِنَ شَوْكَةٌ فَمَا فَوْقَهَا، إِلاَّ رَفَعَهُ اللَّهُ بِهَا دَرَجَةً، وَحَطَّ عَنْهُ بِهَا خَطِيئَةً.

Narrated from Aishah (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: " No prick of a thorn or what is worse (or greater) than that, afflicts a believer, except Allah raises him in rank and removes sin from him because of it."

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ وَكِيعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: مَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ يُصِيبُ الْمُؤْمِنَ مِنْ نَصَبٍ، وَلاَ حَزَنٍ، وَلاَ وَصَبٍ حَتَّى الهَمُّ يَهُمُّهُ إِلاَّ يُكَفِّرُ اللَّهُ بِهِ عَنْهُ سَيِّئَاتِهِ.

Narrated from Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: "Nothing afflicts the believer, out of fatigue, grief, disease - even a worry that concerns him - except, Allah removes something from his bad deeds because of it."

حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ مَسْعَدَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ الحَذَّاءُ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلاَبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي أَسْمَاءَ الرَّحَبِيِّ، عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: إِنَّ الْمُسْلِمَ إِذَا عَادَ أَخَاهُ الْمُسْلِمَ لَمْ يَزَلْ فِي خُرْفَةِ الجَنَّةِ.

Narrated from Thawban (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Indeed a Muslim remains in the Khurfah (harvest) of Paradise while he visits his sick Muslim brother."

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ وَزِيرٍ الوَاسِطِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الأَحْوَلِ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلاَبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الأَشْعَثِ، عَنْ أَبِي أَسْمَاءَ، عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَهُ، وَزَادَ فِيهِ: قِيلَ: مَا خُرْفَةُ الجَنَّةِ؟ قَالَ: جَنَاهَا.

(Another chain) from Thawban (RA) who narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said similarly, but he added in it: "They said: 'What is the Khurfah of Paradise?' And he said: "Its harvest."

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ ثُوَيْرٍ هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي فَاخِتَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: أَخَذَ عَلِيٌّ بِيَدِي، قَالَ: انْطَلِقْ بِنَا إِلَى الحَسَنِ نَعُودُهُ، فَوَجَدْنَا عِنْدَهُ أَبَا مُوسَى، فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ: أَعَائِدًا جِئْتَ يَا أَبَا مُوسَى أَمْ زَائِرًا؟ فَقَالَ: لاَ بَلْ عَائِدًا، فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يَعُودُ مُسْلِمًا غُدْوَةً إِلاَّ صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ حَتَّى يُمْسِيَ، وَإِنْ عَادَهُ عَشِيَّةً إِلاَّ صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ، وَكَانَ لَهُ خَرِيفٌ فِي الجَنَّةِ.

Narrated from Thuwair [and he is Ibn Abi Fakhitah] that his father said: "Ali (RA) held me by his hand and said: 'Come with us to pay a visit to Al-Hasan.' So, we found that Abu Musa (RA) was already with him.' Ali (RA) said: 'O Abu Musa! Did you come to pay a sick visit or a normal visit?' He said: 'No, for a sick visit.' So, Ali (RA) said: 'I heard the Apostle of Allah ﷺ saying: "No Muslim visits (the sick) Muslims in the morning, except that seventy-thousand angels, invoke blessings upon him until the evening, and he does not visit at night except that seventy thousand angels invoke blessings upon him until the morning, and there will be a garden for him in Paradise."

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ حَارِثَةَ بْنِ مُضَرِّبٍ، قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ عَلَى خَبَّابٍ وَقَدْ اكْتَوَى فِي بَطْنِهِ، فَقَالَ: مَا أَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَقِيَ مِنَ البَلاَءِ مَا لَقِيتُ، لَقَدْ كُنْتُ وَمَا أَجِدُ دِرْهَمًا عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَفِي نَاحِيَةٍ مِنْ بَيْتِي أَرْبَعُونَ أَلْفًا، وَلَوْلاَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَانَا أَوْ نَهَى أَنْ نَتَمَنَّى الْمَوْتَ لَتَمَنَّيْتُ.

Harithah bin Mudarrib said: "I entered upon Khabab (RA) and he had been branded on his stomach. He said: 'I do not know any of the Companions of the Prophet who met with the trial I have met with. Indeed, I could not find a Dirham during the time of the Prophet, and (now) there are forty thousand (Dirham) in the corner of my house. If Muslim ﷺ had not prohibited us from wishing for death, then I would wish for it.'"

حَدَّثَنَا بِذَلِكَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ العَزِيزِ بْنُ صُهَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِذَلِكَ.

Ali ibn Hujr reported this hadith from Ismail ibn Ibrahim, from Abdul Aziz ibn Suhayb, from Anas ibn Maalik (RA) who from the Prophet ﷺ (a Hadith similar to no. 970).

حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ هِلاَلٍ البَصْرِيُّ الصَّوَّافُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الوَارِثِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ العَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، أَنَّ جِبْرِيلَ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ اشْتَكَيْتَ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: بِاسْمِ اللهِ أَرْقِيكَ، مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ يُؤْذِيكَ، مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ نَفْسٍ، وَعَيْنٍ حَاسِدَةٍ، بِاسْمِ اللهِ أَرْقِيكَ وَاللَّهُ يَشْفِيكَ.

Narrated from Abu Sa'eed that (RA) Jibril (A.S) came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked: "O Muhammad! ﷺ Are you suffering?" He replied: "Yes." He said: "In the Name of Allah, I recite a prayer (Ruqyah) over you, from the evil of every person and evil eye. In the Name of Allah, I recite a prayer (Ruqyah) over you, may Allah cure you."

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الوَارِثِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ العَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ، قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَثَابِتٌ عَلَى أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، فَقَالَ ثَابِتٌ: يَا أَبَا حَمْزَةَ اشْتَكَيْتُ، فَقَالَ أَنَسٌ: أَفَلاَ أَرْقِيكَ بِرُقْيَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: بَلَى، قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ، مُذْهِبَ البَاسِ، اشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي، لاَ شَافِيَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، شِفَاءً لاَ يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا.

Abdul-Aziz bin Suhaib said: "Thabit Al-Bunani and I entered upon Anas bin Malik (RA), and Thabit said: 'O Abu Hamzah! I am suffering from an illness. So, Anas said: 'Shall I not recite the Ruqyah of Allah’s Apostle ﷺ over you?' He said: 'Why, yes.' He said: 'O Allah! Lord of mankind remover of the suffering, cure (him). Indeed, You are the One Who cures, there is none except you who cures, a cure that leaves no disease.'"

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: مَا حَقُّ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ يَبِيتُ لَيْلَتَيْنِ وَلَهُ شَيْءٌ يُوصِي فِيهِ إِلاَّ وَوَصِيَّتُهُ مَكْتُوبَةٌ عِنْدَهُ

Narrated from Ibn Umar (RA) that Muslim ﷺ said: "A Muslim man has no right to spend two nights while he has something to will, except while his will is recorded with him."

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيِّ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ: عَادَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا مَرِيضٌ، فَقَالَ: أَوْصَيْتَ؟، قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: بِكَمْ؟، قُلْتُ: بِمَالِي كُلِّهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، قَالَ: فَمَا تَرَكْتَ لِوَلَدِكَ؟، قُلْتُ: هُمْ أَغْنِيَاءُ بِخَيْرٍ، قَالَ: أَوْصِ بِالعُشْرِ، فَمَا زِلْتُ أُنَاقِصُهُ حَتَّى قَالَ: أَوْصِ بِالثُّلُثِ، وَالثُّلُثُ كَثِيرٌ. قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ: وَنَحْنُ نَسْتَحِبُّ أَنْ يَنْقُصَ مِنَ الثُّلُثِ، لِقَوْلِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالثُّلُثُ كَثِيرٌ.

Sa'd bin Malik said: "Allah’s Apostle ﷺ came to visit me while I was sick. He said: 'Do you have a will?' I said: 'Yes.' He said: 'For how much?' I said: 'All of my wealth, for the cause of Allah.' He said: 'What did you leave for your children?'" He (Sa'd) said: "They are rich in goodness.' He said: 'Will a tenth.'" He (Sa'd) said: "I continued increasing it until he said: 'Will for one-third, and one-third is too much.'" (One of the narrators:) Abdur-Rahman said: "We considered it recommended that it be less than a third, since Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: 'And a third is too great.'"

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ يَحْيَى بْنُ خَلَفٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ غَزِيَّةَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عُمَارَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: لَقِّنُوا مَوْتَاكُمْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ.

Narrated from Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Encourage your dying to say: (La illaha illallah) 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah'"

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ: قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِذَا حَضَرْتُمُ الْمَرِيضَ أَوِ الْمَيِّتَ فَقُولُوا خَيْرًا، فَإِنَّ الْمَلاَئِكَةَ يُؤَمِّنُونَ عَلَى مَا تَقُولُونَ. قَالَتْ: فَلَمَّا مَاتَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ مَاتَ، قَالَ: فَقُولِيَ: اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلَهُ، وَأَعْقِبْنِي مِنْهُ عُقْبَى حَسَنَةً. قَالَتْ: فَقُلْتُ: فَأَعْقَبَنِي اللَّهُ مِنْهُ مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْهُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.

Narrated from Umm Salamah (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said to us: "When you attend to the sick or dying then say only good, for indeed the angels say "Amin" to what you say.'" She said: "When Abu Salamah (RA) died I went to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Apostle of Allah! ﷺ Abu Salamah has died.' He said: 'Then say: "O Allah forgive me and him and give me a good replacement for him." She said: "I said that, and Allah gave a replace that was better than him: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ."

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنِ ابْنِ الهَادِ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ سَرْجِسَ، عَنِ القَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ بِالمَوْتِ، وَعِنْدَهُ قَدَحٌ فِيهِ مَاءٌ، وَهُوَ يُدْخِلُ يَدَهُ فِي القَدَحِ، ثُمَّ يَمْسَحُ وَجْهَهُ بِالمَاءِ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى غَمَرَاتِ الْمَوْتِ أَوْ سَكَرَاتِ الْمَوْتِ.

Aishah (RA) said: "I saw Allah’s Apostle ﷺ while he was dying. He had a cup with water in it, he dipped his hand in the cup then wiped his face with the water, then said: 'O Allah! Help me against the throes of death and the agony of death.'"

حَدَّثَنَا الحَسَنُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ البَزَّارُ البَغْدَادِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُبَشِّرُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الحَلَبِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ العَلاَءِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ: مَا أَغْبِطُ أَحَدًا بِهَوْنِ مَوْتٍ بَعْدَ الَّذِي رَأَيْتُ مِنْ شِدَّةِ مَوْتِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.

Aishah (RA) said: "I was not envious of anyone whose death was easy after I saw the severity the death of Allah’s Apostle ﷺ."

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حُسَامُ بْنُ الْمِصَكِّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَعْشَرٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، قَال: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، يَقُولُ: إِنَّ نَفْسَ الْمُؤْمِنُ تَخْرُجُ رَشْحًا، وَلاَ أُحِبُّ مَوْتًا كَمَوْتِ الْحِمَارِ. قِيلَ: وَمَا مَوْتُ الْحِمَارِ؟ قَالَ: مَوْتُ الْفَجْأَةِ.

Abdullah bin Mas'ud (RA) said: "I heard Allah’s Apostle ﷺ saying: 'The believer's soul escapes out (slowly), and I do not love the death like that of a donkey.' They asked: 'And what is the death of a donkey?' He replied: "A sudden death."

حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُبَشِّرُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الحَلَبِيُّ، عَنْ تَمَّامِ بْنِ نَجِيحٍ، عَنِ الحَسَنِ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: مَا مِنْ حَافِظَيْنِ، رَفَعَا إِلَى اللهِ مَا حَفِظَا مِنْ لَيْلٍ أَوْ نَهَارٍ، فَيَجِدُ اللَّهُ فِي أَوَّلِ الصَّحِيفَةِ وَفِي آخِرِ الصَّحِيفَةِ خَيْرًا، إِلاَّ قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى: أُشْهِدُكُمْ أَنِّي قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لِعَبْدِي مَا بَيْنَ طَرَفَيِ الصَّحِيفَةِ.

Narrated from Anas bin Malik (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: "No two Guardian Angels raise to Allah what they have recorded in a day or night, then Allah finds goodness in the beginning of the scroll and in the end of the scroll, except that Allah Most High says (to angels): 'I make you witness that I have forgiven my servant for what is included in the scroll.'"

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنِ الْمُثَنَّى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: الْمُؤْمِنُ يَمُوتُ بِعَرَقِ الجَبِينِ.

Abdullah bin Buraidah narrated from his father, that the Prophet ﷺ said: "The believer dies with sweat on his forehead."
