Sayings of the Messenger احادیثِ رسول اللہ ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّهُ انْتَهَى إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَقْرَأُ: أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ قَالَ: يَقُولُ ابْنُ آدَمَ: مَالِي مَالِي، وَهَلْ لَكَ مِنْ مَالِكَ إِلاَّ مَا تَصَدَّقْتَ فَأَمْضَيْتَ، أَوْ أَكَلْتَ فَأَفْنَيْتَ، أَوْ لَبِسْتَ فَأَبْلَيْتَ؟

Mutarrif bin Abdullah bin Ash-Shikh-khir reported from his father that he came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was reciting: ‘The mutual rivalry (for piling up worldly things) distracts you.’ He said: “The son of Adam says: ‘My wealth, my wealth.’ But, do you have any wealth as your own except that which you give in charity and make perpetual, or eat and make it vanish, or wear and make it threadbare?”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَكَّامُ بْنُ سَلْمٍ الرَّازِيُّ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي قَيْسٍ، عَنِ الحَجَّاجِ، عَنِ الْمِنْهَالِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ: مَا زِلْنَا نَشُكُّ فِي عَذَابِ القَبْرِ حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ: {أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ} .

Ali (RA) said: “We did not cease to doubt the torment of the grave, until ‘the mutual rivalry diverts you” was revealed’.”

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حَاطِبٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ العَوَّامِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ: {ثُمَّ لَتُسْأَلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ النَّعِيمِ} قَالَ الزُّبَيْرُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَأَيُّ النَّعِيمِ نُسْأَلُ عَنْهُ، وَإِنَّمَا هُمَا الأَسْوَدَانِ التَّمْرُ وَالمَاءُ؟ قَالَ: أَمَا إِنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ.

Az-Zubair bin Al-Awwam (RA) said: “When the following was revealed: Then on that Day, you shall be asked about the (worldly) blessings!’ Az-Zubair said: ‘O Apostle of Allah! ﷺ Which are the blessing that we will be asked about, when they (blessing) are but the two black things: dates and water?’ He said: ‘Indeed, they will be seen soon.’”

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةَ: {ثُمَّ لَتُسْأَلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ النَّعِيمِ} قَالَ النَّاسُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، عَنْ أَيِّ النَّعِيمِ نُسْأَلُ؟ فَإِنَّمَا هُمَا الأَسْوَدَانِ وَالْعَدُوُّ حَاضِرٌ، وَسُيُوفُنَا عَلَى عَوَاتِقِنَا؟ قَالَ: إِنَّ ذَلِكَ سَيَكُونُ.

Abu Hurairah (RA) said: “When this Ayah was revealed: ‘Then on that Day, you shall be asked about the blessings!’ the people said: ‘O Apostle of Allah ﷺ! About which blessings shall we be asked? For they are only the two black things, while the enemy is present, and our swords are (at the ready) upon our shoulders?” He said: ‘Indeed, they will be seen soon.’”

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شَبَابَةُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ العَلاَءِ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَرْزَمٍ الأَشْعَرِيِّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِنَّ أَوَّلَ مَا يُسْأَلُ عَنْهُ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ، يَعْنِي العَبْدَ مِنَ النَّعِيمِ، أَنْ يُقَالَ لَهُ: أَلَمْ نُصِحَّ لَكَ جِسْمَكَ، وَنُرْوِيَكَ مِنَ الْمَاءِ البَارِدِ.

Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: “The first thing about which one will be questioned on the Day of Resurrection-meaning, the slave about blessings. It will be said, ‘Did we not give you a sound, healthy body and quench your thirst with cool water?’”

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى: {إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الكَوْثَرَ}: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: هُوَ نَهْرٌ فِي الجَنَّةِ قَالَ: فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: رَأَيْتُ نَهْرًا فِي الجَنَّةِ حَافَّتَاهُ قِبَابُ اللُّؤْلُؤِ. قُلْتُ: مَا هَذَا يَا جِبْرِيلُ؟ قَالَ: هَذَا الكَوْثَرُ الَّذِي أَعْطَاكَهُ اللَّهُ.

Narrated from Anas (RA) that [regarding Allah, Most High’s saying] ‘Verily We have granted you Al-Kauthar’ (108:1) the Prophet ﷺ said: “It is a river in Paradise.” He said: “The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘I saw a river in Paradise, whose banks had tents made of pearl. I asked: “What is this O Jibril?’” He replied: “This is Al-Kauthar which Allah has granted you.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الحَكَمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: بَيْنَا أَنَا أَسِيرُ فِي الجَنَّةِ، إِذْ عُرِضَ لِي نَهْرٌ حَافَّتَاهُ قِبَابُ اللُّؤْلُؤِ، قُلْتُ لِلْمَلَكِ: مَا هَذَا؟ قَالَ: هَذَا الكَوْثَرُ الَّذِي أَعْطَاكَهُ اللَّهُ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ ضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى طِينَةٍ فَاسْتَخْرَجَ مِسْكًا، ثُمَّ رُفِعَتْ لِي سِدْرَةُ الْمُنْتَهَى فَرَأَيْتُ عِنْدَهَا نُورًا عَظِيمًا.

Narrated from Anas (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: “While I was traveling through Paradise, a river appeared before me whose banks had tents of pearl. I asked the angel: ‘What is this?’ He said: ‘This is Al-Kauthar, which Allah has granted you.’” He said: “Then he struck its soil with his hand, and removed musk from it, then Sidrat Al-Muntaha was raised up for me, so I saw a magnificent light at it.”

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ مُحَارِبِ بْنِ دِثَارٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: الكَوْثَرُ نَهْرٌ فِي الجَنَّةِ، حَافَّتَاهُ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ، وَمَجْرَاهُ عَلَى الدُّرِّ وَاليَاقُوتِ، تُرْبَتُهُ أَطْيَبُ مِنَ الْمِسْكِ، وَمَاؤُهُ أَحْلَى مِنَ العَسَلِ، وَأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الثَّلْجِ.

Narrated from Abdullah bin Umar (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: “Al-Kauthar is a river in Paradise, whose banks are made of gold, and it flows over pearls and corundum. Its dirt is purer than musk, and its water is sweeter than honey and whiter than milk.”

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: كَانَ عُمَرُ يَسْأَلُنِي مَعَ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ: أَتَسْأَلُهُ وَلَنَا بَنُونَ مِثْلُهُ؟ فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: إِنَّهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ تَعْلَمُ، فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ هَذِهِ الآيَةِ: {إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللهِ وَالفَتْحُ} فَقُلْتُ: إِنَّمَا هُوَ أَجَلُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْلَمَهُ إِيَّاهُ، وَقَرَأَ السُّورَةَ إِلَى آخِرِهَا، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: وَاللَّهِ مَا أَعْلَمُ مِنْهَا إِلاَّ مَا تَعْلَمُ.

Ibn Abbas (RA) said: “Umar (RA) used to ask me questions in front of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ. So Abdur-Rahman bin Awf (RA) said to him: ‘Why do you ask him, while we have children like him?’” He said: “Umar (RA) said to him: ‘It is because of what you know (about him).’ So he asked him about this Ayah: ‘When there comes the help of Allah and the Conquest.’ I said: “It is only regarding the (end of the) life span of the Apostle of Allah ﷺ, informing him of it.” Then he recited the Surat until its end. So, Umar (RA) said to him: “By Allah! I know not about it, but what you know.”
