Ibn Abbas [may Allah be pleased with them] said: “Neither Allah’s Apostle ﷺ recite for the Jinns nor did he see them. Allah’s Apostle ﷺ went out with a group of his Companions intending towards the Ukaz market. A screen was put up between the devils and the news from heaven (revelation), and shooting stars has been sent upon them, so the devils returned to their people, and they said to them: ‘What is wrong with you?’ They replied: ‘There is a screen intervening between us and the news of the heavens except that something has happened. So, travel east and west in the earth and search for what is it that intervenes between you and between the news of the heavens.’” He said: “So they went traveling east and west on the earth, seeking whatever it was that had been intervening between them and the news of the heavens. A group of those who were traveling towards Tihamah headed in the direction of the Apostle of Allah, while he was at Nakhlah, intending to the Ukaz market. He was offering Salat Al-Fajr with his Companions. When they heard the Quran, they listened to it, and they said: ‘By Allah! This is what has been intervening between us and the news of the heavens.’” He said: “Then they returned to their people and said: ‘We have really heard a wonderful Recital! It gives guidance to the Right, and we have believed therein: we shall not join (in worship) any (gods) with our Lord.’ So Allah, Blessed is He and Most High, revealed to His Prophet: Say: ‘Say: It has been revealed to me that a company of Jinns listened (to the Qur'an).’ And the words of the jinns were revealed to the Prophet exactly (as they were).”

Ibn Abbas said: “The Jinns used to climb up through the heavens, trying to listen about the Revelation. So, when they listened a statement, they would add nine to it. Thus, the statement that they heard would be true, while their additions were false. So, when Allah’s Apostle ﷺ was sent they were prevented from their sitting places (in the heavens). So, they mentioned that to Iblis – and the stars were not shot at them before that. So, Iblis said to them: ‘This is not but that something has happened newly in the earth.’ So, he sent out his armies, and they found Allah’s Apostle ﷺ standing in Salah between two mountains” – I think he said “in Makkah” – “So they (returned) to meet with him (Iblis), and informed him. He said: ‘This is the event that has happened newly on the earth.’”

Jabir bin Abdullah (RA) said: “I heard Allah’s Apostle ﷺ while he was narrating about the period of suspension in Revelation – so he said in his narration: “I was walking when I heard a voice from the heavens. So, I raised my head, and there was an angel, the one that had come to me at Hira, sitting upon a chair between the heavens and the earth. I feared him, so I returned (home) and said: ‘Wrap me up! Wrap me up! So, they covered me.” Then Allah, Most High revealed: ‘O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! Arise and deliver thy warning! And thy Lord do thou magnify! And thy garments keep free from stain! And all abomination shun!’ before the Salat was made obligatory.”

Narrated from Abu Sa’eed (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: “As-Sa’ud is a mountain of fire, a disbeliever will be made to climb upon it for seventy autumns, and then similarly he will fall down it, forever.”

Jabir bin Abdullah (RA) said: “Some people from the Jews said to some people among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ: ‘Does your Prophet know how many keepers there in Hell are?’ They said: ‘We do not know until we ask our Prophet. So, a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘O Muhammad! ﷺ Your Companions were defeated today.’ He said: ‘How were they defeated?’ He said: ‘Some Jews asked them if their Prophet knew how many keepers there in the Hell are.’ He said: ‘So what did they reply?’ He said: ‘They said: “We do not know until we ask our Prophet.” He said: ‘Are a people defeated who are asked about something that they do not know, merely because they said, “We do not know until we ask our Prophet?” While their people did ask their Prophet, they said: “Show us Allah plainly.” Bring these enemies of Allah to me. I will ask them about the dust of paradise. It is fine earth (or flour).’ So, when they came to him, they said: ‘O Abul-Qasim! How many keepers are there in the Hell?’ He said through gesture (of his fingers) showing ten once and nine the second time. They said: ‘Yes.’ He said to them: ‘What is the dirt of Paradise?’” He (narrator) said: “They were silent for a while, then they said: ‘Is it bread O Abul-Qasim?’ So, the Prophet said: ‘The bread is made of Ad-Darmak (flour).’”

Narrated from Anas bin Malik (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said regarding this Ayah: “He is the One deserving of the Taqwa, and He is the One Who forgives. – he said: ‘Allah, the Blessed and the Exalted says: I am Worthy that they (My slaves) fear me. And he who fears me, does not join another god with me, and (to him) I am Worthy of pardoning him.”

Ibn Abbas (RA) said: “When the Quran was being revealed to the Apostle of Allah ﷺ, he used to move his tongue intending thereby to memorize it. So, Allah, the Blessed and the Exalted, revealed: "Move not thy tongue concerning the (Qur'an) to make haste therewith. He said: “So he would move his two lips.” And Sufyan (a sub-narrator) would move his two lips.

Thuwair said: “I heard Ibn Umar (RA) say: ‘Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said, “Indeed the lowest in rank among the people of Paradise, is the one who shall look at his gardens, his wives, his servants, and his beds from the distance of a thousand years, and the most honorable of them with Allah is the one who shall look at His Face morning and night.” Then the Apostle of Allah ﷺ recited: Some faces, that Day, will beam (in brightness and beauty). Looking towards their Lord.

Aishah (RA) said: “He frowned and turned away” (Surah Abasa) was revealed regarding Ibn Umm Maktum the blind man. He came to the Apostle of Allah ﷺ and kept saying: ‘O Apostle of Allah! ﷺ Guide me.’ At that time, there was a man from among the elite polytheists with the Apostle of Allah. So, Allah’s Apostle ﷺ turned away from him and paid attention to the other man, saying: ‘Do you think that there is something wrong with what I am saying?’ He said: ‘No.’ So it was about that this Surah was revealed.”

Narrated from Ibn Abbas (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ said: “You will be gathered barefoot, naked and uncircumcised.” “A woman asked: “Will we see” or “look at each other’s nakedness?” He said: “O so-and-so! Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make careless of others.”
