Abu Salamah said: “I asked Aishah (RA): ‘With what did the Prophet would commence his Salah when he stood up in the night?’ She said: ‘When he stood up in the night, he would commence his Salah by saying: “O Allah, Lord of Jibra’il, Mika’il, and Israfil; Originator of the heavens and the earth, [and] Knower of the hidden and the seen; You will judge between Your slaves concerning that which they differ. Guide me in that which is disputed to the Truth with Your command. Surely, You guide to whom You will towards the Right Path.”

Ali bin Abi Talib (RA) narrated that whenever Allah’s Apostle ﷺ would stand for Salah, he would recite: “I have turned my face towards Him Who originated the heavens and the earth. I am not inclined to any deviation, and I am not of the polytheists. Surely, my salah, my offering, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds, He has no partner, and about that I have been commanded, and I am the first of those who submit (as a Muslim). 0 Allah, You are the king. There is no God besides You. You are my Lord and I am Your slave. I have wronged myself and I confess my sins, so forgive me my sins, all of them. No one, but You forgive sins. And guide me to the best of manners. No one will guide me to the best of them, but You. And turn away from me its evils, for, none will turn away from me its evils, except You. I have believed in You. Blessed are You and Exalted! I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You.” And when he would bow in Ruku`, he would recite: “O Allah, I bow down for you, and in you do I believe, and to you do I submit. Humbled before you are my hearing, my sight, my marrow, my bones and my nerves” Then when he would raise his head, he would recite: “O Allah, our Lord, to You is praise the fill of the Heavens and the earths and the fill of whatever You will of things.” Then, when he prostrated, he would recite: “O Allah, to You do. I prostrate and in You do I believe and to You do I submit. My face prostrated to Him Who created it and fashioned it and opened in it its hearing and its sight. So blessed is Allah the Best of all Creators!” Then the last of what he would recite between At-Tashah-hud and As-Salam would be: “O Allah, forgive me that which I have hastened and that which I have delayed (of sins) and what I have hidden and what I have done openly, and what You know more of it than I, You are the One who sends forth and the One who delays, there is none worthy of worship except You.”

Ali bin Abi Talib (RA) narrated that when the Apostle of Allah ﷺ would stand for the obligatory prayer, he would raise his hands to the level of his shoulder, and he would do this [also] when he finished his recitation and intended to bow, and he would do it when he raised his head from Ruku`, and he would not raise his hands in any of his prayers while he was seated. When he would rise from the two prostrations, he would likewise raise his hands, and say the Takbir, and when he commenced his Salah after the Takbir, he would recite: “I have turned my face towards Him Who originated the heavens and the earth. Humbled before you are my hearing, my sight, my marrow, my bénes and my nerves.” Then, when he raised his head from Ruku he would recite: “Allah hears the one who praises him.” Then he would follow it with: “O Allah, our Lord, for You is all praise as fills up the heavens and the earths and that which is between them, and fills up that which You wish of anything (besites these).” Then, when prostrated he would recite in his prostration: “O Allah, to You do. I prostrate and in You do I believe and to You do I submit. My face prostrated to Him Who created it and fashioned it, and opened in it its hearing and its sight. So blessed is Allah the Best of all Creators!” When he was finished with his Salah, he would recite: “O Allah, forgive me that which I have hastened and that which I have delayed (of sins), what I have concealed and what I have disclosed, and that which you know of it better than I do. Ibn Abbas (RA) said: “A man approached the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘O Apostle of Allah ﷺ! I saw myself (in dream) at night while I was sleeping, as though I offer salah behind a tree, when I prostrated, the tree prostrated along with me. Then I heard it saying: “0 Allah record for me a reward against it, with You, and remove from me against it a burden (of sin). And let it be with You a treasure. And accept it from me as You did accept it from Your servant Dawud.” Al-Hasan said: “Ibn Juraij said to me: ‘Your grandfather said to me: “Ibn Abbas said: ‘So the Prophet ﷺ recited (an Ayah of) prostration, then prostrated.’” [He said] “So Ibn Abbas said: ‘I listened to him, and he was saying the same as the man informed that the tree had said.’”
Aishah (RA) said: “When Allah’s Apostle ﷺ would prostrate (for recitation of) the Qur’an, he would say: ‘My face made the prostration for Him who has created it and Who, with His (intrinsic) power and strength, made openings in it for ears and eyes.’”
