حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بِشْرٍ الخَثْعَمِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا سَافَرَ فَرَكِبَ رَاحِلَتَهُ، قَالَ بِإِصْبَعِهِ، وَمَدَّ شُعْبَةُ إِصْبَعَهُ، قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ، وَالخَلِيفَةُ فِي الأَهْلِ، اللَّهُمَّ اصْحَبْنَا بِنُصْحِكَ، وَاقْلِبْنَا بِذِمَّةٍ، اللَّهُمَّ ازْوِ لَنَا الأَرْضَ، وَهَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا السَّفَرَ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ وَعْثَاءِ السَّفَرِ، وَكَآبَةِ الْمُنْقَلَبِ.

Abu Hurairah (RA) said: “When the Prophet ﷺ mounted on his beast to set out on a journey, he gestured with his finger (towards heaven)” – and Shu`bah stretched out his finger – “and say: ‘O Allah You are the Companion on the journey, and the Guardian for the family, O Allah, accompany us with Your protection, and return us in security, O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of the journey, and from sad return”

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الأَحْوَلِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَرْجِسَ، قَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا سَافَرَ يَقُولُ: اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ، وَالخَلِيفَةُ فِي الأَهْلِ، اللَّهُمَّ اصْحَبْنَا فِي سَفَرِنَا، وَاخْلُفْنَا فِي أَهْلِنَا، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ وَعْثَاءِ السَّفَرَ، وَكَآبَةِ الْمُنْقَلَبِ، وَمِنَ الْحَوْرِ بَعْدَ الْكَوْرِ، وَمِنْ دَعْوَةِ الْمَظْلُومِ، وَمِنْ سُوءِ الْمَنْظَرِ فِي الأَهْلِ وَالْمَالِ.

Narrated from Abdullah bin Sarjis (RA) that when the Prophet ﷺ decided to travel, he would recite: “O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey, and the Guardian for the family, O Allah, accompany us in our journey, and watch over our families, O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of the journey, and from sad return, and from loss after increase, and from the supplication of the oppressed, and from someone looking with evil at our families and wealth.”

حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الرَّبِيعَ بْنَ البَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا قَدِمَ مِنْ سَفَرٍ قَالَ: آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ، لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ.

Ar-Rabi bin Al-Bara’ bin `Azib reported from, his father that whenever the Prophet ﷺ would come back from a trip, he would recite: “(We are) Returning, repenting, worshipping, and to our Lord directing the praise.”

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا قَدِمَ مِنْ سَفَرٍ، فَنَظَرَ إِلَى جُدْرَانِ الْمَدِينَةِ، أَوْضَعَ رَاحِلَتَهُ، وَإِنْ كَانَ عَلَى دَابَّةٍ حَرَّكَهَا مِنْ حُبِّهَا.

Narrated from Anas (RA) that when the Prophet ﷺ would come back from a trip and look at the walls of Al-Madinah, he would hasten his riding camel, and if he was upon a beast, he would hasten it, out of his love for Al-Madinah.

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُبَيْدِ اللهِ السُّلَيْمِيُّ البَصْرِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو قُتَيْبَةَ سَلْمُ بْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا وَدَّعَ رَجُلاً أَخَذَ بِيَدِهِ، فَلاَ يَدَعُهَا حَتَّى يَكُونَ الرَّجُلُ هُوَ يَدَعُ يَدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَيَقُولُ: اسْتَوْدِعِ اللَّهَ دِينَكَ وَأَمَانَتَكَ وَآخِرَ عَمَلِكَ.

Ibn Umar (RA) said: “When the Prophet ﷺ would bid someone a farewell, he would grab his hand, and not let it go the man himself withdrew his hand, of the Prophet, and he would say: ‘I entrust to Allah your religion, your trusts, and the last of your deeds.’”

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُوسَى الفَزَارِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ خُثَيْمٍ، عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ، كَانَ يَقُولُ لِلرَّجُلِ إِذَا أَرَادَ سَفَرًا: أَنِ ادْنُ مِنِّي أُوَدِّعْكَ كَمَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوَدِّعُنَا، فَيَقُولُ: أَسْتَوْدِعُ اللَّهَ دِينَكَ، وَأَمَانَتَكَ، وَخَوَاتِيمَ عَمَلِكَ.

Narrated from Salim that Ibn Umar (RA) used to say to a person intending to undertake a journey, “Come close to me so that I may bid you farewell as Allah’s Apostle ﷺ used to bid us farewell.” Then he would recite: “I entrust to Allah your religion, and your trusts, and the last of your deeds.”

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سَيَّارٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي أُرِيدُ سَفَرًا فَزَوِّدْنِي. قَالَ: زَوَّدَكَ اللَّهُ التَّقْوَى، قَالَ: زِدْنِي، قَالَ: وَغَفَرَ ذَنْبَكَ قَالَ: زِدْنِي بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي، قَالَ: وَيَسَّرَ لَكَ الخَيْرَ حَيْثُمَا كُنْتَ.

Anas (RA) said: “A man approached Allah’s Apostle ﷺ and said: ‘I want to go on a journey, so give me provision. He said: ‘May Allah give you Taqwa as your provision.’ He said: ‘Give me more.’ He said: ‘And may He forgive your sins.’ He said: ‘Give me more, may my father be ransomed for you, and my mother.’ He said: ‘And may He make goodness easy for you wherever you are.’”

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الكِنْدِيُّ الكُوفِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ حُبَابٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَجُلاً قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُسَافِرَ فَأَوْصِنِي، قَالَ: عَلَيْكَ بِتَقْوَى اللهِ، وَالتَّكْبِيرِ عَلَى كُلِّ شَرَفٍ، فَلَمَّا أَنْ وَلَّى الرَّجُلُ، قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ اطْوِ لَهُ الأَرْضَ، وَهَوِّنْ عَلَيْهِ السَّفَرَ.

Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that a man said: “O Apostle of Allah ﷺ, I want to travel, so advise me.” He said, “Hold fast to the Taqwa of Allah, and (say the) Takbir upon every elevated place.” So, when the man turned away, he said: “O Allah! shrink the distance for him and make the journey easy for him.”

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ، قَالَ: شَهِدْتُ عَلِيًّا، أُتِيَ بِدَابَّةٍ لِيَرْكَبَهَا، فَلَمَّا وَضَعَ رِجْلَهُ فِي الرِّكَابِ، قَالَ: بِسْمِ اللهِ ثَلاَثًا، فَلَمَّا اسْتَوَى عَلَى ظَهْرِهَا، قَالَ: الحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: {سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا، وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ}، ثُمَّ قَالَ: الحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ثَلاَثًا، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ثَلاَثًا، سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي قَدْ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي، فَإِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، ثُمَّ ضَحِكَ. فَقُلْتُ: مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ ضَحِكْتَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ؟ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَنَعَ كَمَا صَنَعْتُ، ثُمَّ ضَحِكَ، فَقُلْتُ: مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ ضَحِكْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ: إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَيَعْجَبُ مِنْ عَبْدِهِ إِذَا قَالَ: رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي إِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ غَيْرُكَ.

Ali bin Rabi’ah said: “I observed Ali (RA) having an animal brought to him to ride. When he placed his foot in the stirrup he said: ‘In the Name of Allah,’ (Bismillāh) [three times]. So then, once he was seated on its back, he said: ‘All praise is due to Allah.’ (Al-ḥamdulillāh) then he said: Glorified be He who has subjected (all) this to us and we ourselves were not capable to do it. And surely to our Lord we shall return. (43: 13-14). Then he said: ‘All praise is due to Allah (Al-ḥamdulillāh)’ – three times – and ‘Allah is the Greatest (Allāhu Akbar)’ – three times – ‘Glorified are You. Surely, I have wronged myself. So, forgive me, for, there is no one to forgive sins except you.’ Then he smiled. So, I asked: ‘O Commander of the Believer! What makes you to smile?’ He said: ‘I saw the Apostle of Allah ﷺ do as I did, then he (ﷺ) smiled, so I said, ‘What cause you to smile?’ He said: ‘Indeed, your Lord is very pleased with His worshipper when he says: “O my Lord, forgive me my sins, indeed, no one other than You forgives sins.”

حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ البَارِقِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا سَافَرَ فَرَكِبَ رَاحِلَتَهُ كَبَّرَ ثَلاَثًا وَقَالَ:: {سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ}، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ فِي سَفَرِي هَذَا مِنَ البِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَى، وَمِنَ العَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَى، اللَّهُمَّ هَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا الْمَسِيرَ، وَاطْوِ عَنَّا بُعْدَ الأَرْضِ، اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ، وَالخَلِيفَةُ فِي الأَهْلِ، اللَّهُمَّ اصْحَبْنَا فِي سَفَرِنَا، وَاخْلُفْنَا فِي أَهْلِنَا، وَكَانَ يَقُولُ إِذَا رَجَعَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ: آيِبُونَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ تَائِبُونَ، عَابِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ.

Narrated from Ibn Umar (RA) that when the Prophet ﷺ would decide to travel, and he mounted his riding camel, he would say the Takbir three times and say: Glorified be He who has subjected (all) this to us and we ourselves were not capable to do it. And surely to our Lord we shall return. Then he would supplicate: “O Allah, I ask You in this journey of mine from the righteousness and piety and actions that which you are pleased with. O Allah, ease for us the path, and make near for us the distance of the land. O Allah, You are the companion in the journey, and the caretaker for the family. O Allah, accompany us in our journey, and take care of our families.” And when he would return to his family, he would say: “(We are) Returning, if Allah wills, repenting, worshipping, and to our Lord directing the praise.”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الحَجَّاجُ الصَّوَّافُ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ثَلاَثُ دَعَوَاتٍ مُسْتَجَابَاتٌ: دَعْوَةُ الْمَظْلُومِ، وَدَعْوَةُ الْمُسَافِرِ، وَدَعْوَةُ الوَالِدِ عَلَى وَلَدِهِ. حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ الدَّسْتُوَائِيِّ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ نَحْوَهُ. وَزَادَ فِيهِ: مُسْتَجَابَاتٌ لاَ شَكَّ فِيهِنَّ.

Narrated from Abu Hurairah (RA) that Allah’s Apostle ﷺ said: “Three supplications are answered: The supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveller, and the supplication of the parent against his child.” Ali bin Hujr narrated to us (he said): Ismail bin Ibrahim reported to us from Hisham Ad-Dastawa’i, from Yahya bin Abu Kathir with this chain, narrating similar to it, but he added to it: “responded to, there is no doubt in them.”

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الأَسْوَدِ أَبُو عَمْرٍو البَصْرِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا رَأَى الرِّيحَ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِهَا، وَخَيْرِ مَا فِيهَا، وَخَيْرِ مَا أُرْسِلَتْ بِهِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا، وَشَرِّ مَا فِيهَا، وَشَرِّ مَا أُرْسِلَتْ بِهِ.

Aishah (RA) said: “When the Prophet ﷺ would see the strong wind he would say: ‘0 Allah, I ask You for the good of this (wind), and the good of what is in it and the good of what it is sent with. And I seek refuge in You from the evil of it, and the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it is sent with.’”

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ أَرْطَاةَ، عَنْ أَبِي مَطَرٍ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا سَمِعَ صَوْتَ الرَّعْدِ وَالصَّوَاعِقِ، قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ لاَ تَقْتُلْنَا بِغَضَبِكَ، وَلاَ تُهْلِكْنَا بِعَذَابِكَ، وَعَافِنَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ.

Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar narrated from his father, that when Allah’s Apostle ﷺ would hear the sound of thunder and lightning bolts, he would recite: “0 Allah, do not slay us with Your anger and do not destroy us with Your punishment, but forgive us before that.”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ العَقَدِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ الْمَدِينِيُّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي بِلاَلُ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا رَأَى الهِلاَلَ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ أَهْلِلْهُ عَلَيْنَا بِاليُمْنِ وَالإِيمَانِ وَالسَّلاَمَةِ وَالإِسْلاَمِ، رَبِّي وَرَبُّكَ اللَّهُ.

Narrated from Talhah bin `Ubaidullah (RA) that when the Prophet ﷺ would observe a new moon, he would say: “0 Allah! cause this moon to rise on us with peace, faith, safety and Islam, My Lord and your Lord (0 moon) is Allah.”
